Meet Ben

Ben might seem scary for visitors, as he guards his pen and reacts to new humans, in a rather unpleasant way, but he is a calm dog on his walks, with no reactions towards humans or other dogs.
Ben is very young, approximately 12 months old. Because of his size and age, he needs a lot of exercise, training and boundaries, which he has not received in the past. Being a big puppy is not easy without clear rules to follow. This has, unfortunately, lead to Ben biting his owners, which is the reason why he has been surrendered to the shelter.
In the beginning, Ben was shy, scared, and difficult to read. Because of that, and his past behaviour, shelter staff were careful and took things slowly, step by step, as it’s important to respect the dog and show them that shelter is their safe space. Over the month that Ben has been at the shelter, he has blossomed, and we can finally see his potential.
Once he is comfortable with you, he is affectionate, and reacts to commands and rules. It shows that strict routines, with a good dose of love and attention, is a perfect solution for Ben. He is still a dog for experienced owners only, preferably with no small children.
Ben is slowly learning that there are other ways to show your discomfort than through bites - but it’s important to be aware of his past and capabilities. He can be a challenge if you are not used to big and strong-minded dogs. We would love for Ben to find a family that have time and resources to train him properly and continue to give him love and affection, on his premises.
